Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Deadpool is! Where do you come from and how old are you and when did you start producing Dubstep / Robostep / Drumstep/ Electro Electronica music?
Deadpool: Well, I’m just a small town boy, living in a lonely world, taking midnight trains going anywhere really. Actually though, I just turned 21 and live near Toronto, Ontario.. that’s in Canada eh? (yes, I actually say that.. a lot) I started producing late in my first year of University when I was about 18, but I was just awful so I stopped for a bit, then got back into it, switched software programs, did a lot more research and tried to become better about midway through my second year. I started out producing electro stuff under a different name, got a couple songs on Beatport (which I still haven’t seen a single dollar of) and tuned my skills some more throughout that year. I again stopped for a while over the summer, and just this past November (2011) in my third year, I decided to go balls deep in dubstep and toss the old electro stuff.
Robo Jo-Jo: How old were you when you became influenced by the music you enjoy?
Deadpool: I enjoy just about all music, and have probably gone through stages where every single genre was my favorite. I still laugh about my little gangsta phase. I started playing guitar when I was 9, then slapped a little bass when I was about 12, but really got into drums when I was 14 and that has since become my favorite instrument. In high school I was all about the underground metal/screamo scene and still love that music. Even now when I go through my itunes and an As I Lay Dying song or something comes on I go nuts. I used to always have jam seshes with friends and rock out to that stuff, so that has always influenced me, but it wasn’t until I started going to the clubs and bars and I’d hear electro music that I fell in love. So I’d say around 17 or so I started getting into EDM, even though I still listen to everything, but dubstep really attracted me because for me it was like the heavy metal of EDM.
Robo Jo-Jo: where did you get the name Deadpool from and what is the meaning of your name?
I love stuff like X-Men, and mutants and all that shit, and one night I was just researching different mutants for my own nerdy pleasure and I came across Deadpool and my first thought was that his name was badass. When I looked more into him, I saw that he’s really sarcastic, has a sense of humor and doesn’t take himself too seriously, all while kicking ass, and I just thought it was extremely similar to myself and loved the name. I wish there was more meaning to the name, like I drowned in a pool and came back to life with the super power of shooting dubstep tunes out of my ass, but unfortunately I’m not that awesome.
Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you produce your music in the recording studio how long does it take you to finish your productions?
Deadpool: Me producing in the studio is actually me just sitting in bed naked with my headphones. Sexy thought, I know. Most of my time making music is writing and deleting stuff that sounds terrible, then all of a sudden something will click. Once I get in a good groove and get going I can pump out a tune in a few hours straight, but take a few more days/weeks listening to it a couple million times making tweaks that most people will most likely never notice.
Robo Jo-Jo: what do you like to have in hand what do you see inside the production your working on and how do you think its going to turn out and how do you master your productions so well?
Deadpool: Each time I start a song its different, sometimes I’ll have an idea and try and replicate what is in my head, and sometimes I’ll just play different notes over a drum loop and see what comes of it. When it comes to mastering a lot of what you hear is just a louder version of my mix, I just try and make everything sound perfect and clean before I throw it through a quick master with ozone.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your fav sound you make and made How do you creat your basslines how do you get them to be so dirty and clean at the same time?
Deadpool: My favorite sound by far, and I’m sure everybody knows because I love to use it, is the heavy, almost guitar-like, chugging bass. There’s also the big talking bass I used in my Bare Noize remix that sounds like a dragon raping a lion on a skateboard or something. I use Massive, and like I said I’m super OCD about my shit so I will sit and make fine tunings for hours on end until I like how it sounds.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your studio set up what Software / Hardware do you use and which piece of Technology is your favourite in your studio?
Deadpool: My setup is just my laptop, headphones and me in my birthday suit. I have an Oxygen 49 keyboard and an Akai MPD 24, but they don’t get used all that often anymore. My daw of choice is Ableton, I sometimes rewire Reason as well, but that’s usually way too much of a pain in the ass for me. For vsts I’m all about Massive, sometimes Sylenth1, and a bunch of random effects vsts.
Robo Jo-Jo: If you could collab with anyone who would it be and tour with and what
producer/artist/musician would you want to meet and who is your fav producer of all time and now and days?
Deadpool: I would love to collab with Mako, his productions are seriously out of this world. I would love to tour with Borgore because the man is an animal. My fav producers are probably Mantis right now, because they are clearly a couple metal heads like me and make some badass music, but as I said before I listen to everything and have tons of favorite producers. I also LOVE Trumpdisco, Wolfgang, Porter Robinson, Space Laces, xKore, Far Too Loud, Figure and Knife Party (obviously)
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favourite thing to eat and drink?
Deadpool: Eat: Nutella

Robo Jo-Jo: Where do you think the dubstep seen is going to be in 2013 and what do you think of all these sub genres of dubstep music and how would you describe your style?
Deadpool: Dubstep seems to be getting bigger and bigger, which I know a lot of people don’t like for different reasons, so in 2013 I can only imagine its going to keep showing up. I mean I heard a Knife Party song in a Cinnibon store for fuck sakes. I love all the different styles, I just hate when people argue over what genre is what or what’s better. I really don’t care, produce whatever you like and if I like it I’ll listen to it, if I don’t it won’t be on my iPod. I love most music though so to me its great! A lot of people have described my stuff as metal-step, or just heavy, but I do like to be influenced by heavy metal stuff so I guess I’d say metaly, heavy, bouncy, loud.
Robo Jo-Jo: What Medium Do You Prefer Vinyl / MP3 And Why?
Deadpool: I’m an mp3 guy because I don’t go anywhere without my music, also I never grew up with vinyl or anything so I’ve never used it.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is it that you love About dubstep and drumstep and all the sub genres of dubstep music?
Deadpool: I love that its heavy really and just all of the ridiculous sounds being made and melting peoples faces.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your all time fav band and if you got to do an productions with them what style would you like to it as?
Deadpool: All time favorite band would probably have to be Rage Against the Machine, or Death From Above 1979.. either way I’d love to do a gnarly moobacore type tune with them with some sweet drums and bouncy basslines.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies?
Deadpool: Top Movies: I Love You Man, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Other Guys, The Game and Wayne’s World.
Robo Jo-Jo: Any New Releases That The Listeners Should Look Out For and when to expect some new productions and how’s your EP coming along?
Deadpool: Definitely lots of new stuff coming out, I’m going to be giving away another free EP which is just about done and will include a really bouncy tune, a heavy metal influenced one where I focused on drums and just went nuts on them, and a heavy moombacore tune. Also I’ll be doing a couple official remixes alongside some big names, and a few collabs that I’m excited about.
Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers?
Deadpool: Getting better takes a lot of time, practice won’t necessarily make perfect and sometimes it just flat out blows chunks, but you need to practice and stick with it to get better. I’m nowhere near where I’d like to be, but I’ll just keep doing my thing to try and get better every time. Do research, and experiment as much as possible.
Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favorite production that you have produced or producing?
Deadpool: Every time I make a new tune its always my favorite until I make a new one, but I’m pretty proud of my Mutant EP especially Gambit (which will be released soon I promise) and the remix I did for Bare Noize because people seemed to like it, and that’s pretty neat.
Robo Jo-Jo: How is the scene in your city and what was the biggest best show you have DJ live at?
Deadpool: I live in Burlington, and the scene here is shit, but its not a huge city. In Toronto its pretty bad ass, I go to school in Ottawa though so 8 months a year I’m there and there’s a crew called Knwldg Entertainment who throw some gnarly events. The biggest and best show I performed at was a party called Skins in Montreal held by a crew called Big Tooth, and that was pretty fucking nuts.
Robo Jo-Jo: Haha nice You go to school there. Yea that party was super insane!! You did an awesome job on your set and Cyperpunkers was amazing!! Never will forget that night sickk!! haha.
Robo Jo-Jo: How do you get your ideas from whats the sickest idea you have done and any new ideas for your newest productions you will be working on and if you had a choice to travel around the world and do a show where would that be?
Deadpool: Ideas will come from anywhere, they seem to hit me in the shower a lot, but by the time I’m out and actually able to try and put it into a song its gone. I usually don’t have ideas built up because I just forget them. If I could travel anywhere it’d be Australia because its literally on the other side of the world from me.
Robo Jo-Jo: Do you know of how to play any other instruments and what is your fav instruments to hear and see?
Deadpool: I play guitar (shitty now), bass (shitty in general) and drums, but drums are definitely my favorite and am best at.
Robo Jo-Jo: Whats your favorite genre of music and do you do any other things with music ?
Deadpool: I love all genres; EDM, Metal, Classic Rock, Hip-Hop, whatever sounds good.
