Robo Jo-Jo Exclusive Interview - Dstruct.O Interview

Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Dstruct.O/ DJ Vex is! Where do you come from and how old are you and when did you start producing Dubstep / Robostep / Drumstep/ Electronica music?

Dstruct.O

Im from Windsor Shity.Canada next to Detroit..
,age 23.I started Producing on my own apart from my old hiphop stuff..about 5yrs now.
When i started.i was making beats under my old rap name Rollz-Royze doing Experimental, triphop&breakcore stuff just learning .as i got better i needed a change.so i started doing electro, house, kuduro, fidget .etc under Vex.but as dubstep started to grow bigger and after meeting some kool dubstep peeps in the city.i just kinda jumped on board.and changed the name because there was already vex'd.lol so i thought up the most coolest name and it stuck.lmao..so now i bounce back and forth doing vex or dstruct.o projects.keeps me from getting board with one thing.

Robo Jo-Jo: How old were you when you became influenced by the music you enjoy and where did you get the name Dstruct.Ofromand what is the meaning of your name?

Dstruct.O

My dad and grandfathers were musicians in detroit .so it kind of runs in the family..ive been in many studios since i was a child .
Dstruct.O was just something i came up with real quick trying to get away from vex..lol i also had siborg66 & sinister-slash lol dosnt mean nothing ,but goes with my style of beats. was trying to think something robotic sounding.

Robo Jo-Jo: What are the main influences to your genre of choice and what do you see in the music of what you like and what is your main thing you look out for in a track that someone or you have produced?

Dstruct.O

IM influenced by everything.i have bags of cds i would site and listen to yrs before i started making beats.from electronic, rock to OLDSCHOOL L.A.style gangsta rap or classical music anything that sounds dark i always took to.or anything that sounds good..lol and when making a song i really dont think of any perticular sound.but i do always try to add the westcoast feel to it sometimes.but it depends on what i was watching or listening to that day..lol

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you produce your music in the recording studio how longs does it take you to finish your productions what do you like to have in hand what do you see inside the production your working on and how do you think its going to turn out and how do you master your productions so well! ?

Dstruct.O

Well when im editting.i do alote of stairing at the screen..lol jokes.i need a whole lot of weed.and were good..sometimes i get so zoned into making beats i forget to eat .lmfao but i use to pump out about 2beats a day..but thats when i sucked.and i would rush stuff. but somtimes i would try not to spend longer then 3days cause if i cant find an idea by then.im just waisting time & ill scrap it.but now that ppl are asking for more stuff.i cant just put out the same old shit..but should be better. so ive been working about 2months now on this new cd im releasing soon which is starting to give me a headache.lol with the mastering i did everything myself.up untill now .which will be sent to u.k. for mastering.but ya, i was just using t-racks,but then i would hear other ppl tracks and theres would sound more powerfull because they got pro mastering.also i got mastering from universal which totally stunk.dosnt matter the million dollar equipment.shit sounded whack .but i found someone who does straight up drumstep, dubstep and d&b mastering.the guy at universal probly was good but sucked in thoughs genres.lol
and the turn out depends on if i found a cool sound that day..lol i build everything around the bassline.first drums them basslines then everything else..i play around for hours untill i get something catchy.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your studio set up what Software / Hardware do you use and which piece of Technology is your favourite in your studio?

Dstruct.O

A computer, keyboard, mixer and many vst's. but ableton is my fav.i think its the best, out of everything ive ever tryed and ive downloaded about every beat software torant out there, untill i got tired of getting a virus, then payed the stupid price for it,but made my money back and way more.

Robo Jo-Jo: If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why and what
producer/artist/musician would you want to meet and who is your fav producer of all time?

Dstruct.O

I would love to collab with missy Elliot .but thats a dream for now or Jimi Hendrix but he's dead..lol
but to get serious. would be rage against machine , or peeps from sumo beats or edbanger.there all sick

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favourite thing to eat and drink?

Dstruct.O

Shrimp and arizona-half&half

Robo Jo-Jo: How did you find out about These really cool genres of dubstep/robostep and how did you become to create it and make it so good where do you think it will go in
a year or now how is it going to revolutionize in the future of dubstep music and to the world ?

Dstruct.O

Well i got into the robotic style .cause i love robots.and dubstep why not put them together..lol and i heard some of the older datsik and others tracks and loved the style the first time i heard it.i started the group cause i was looking for that style of stuff .i couldnt find it with out searching through hundreads of tracks .
and dubstep probly will do just like rock or hiphop.turn mainstream and something new and more exciting.or probly die.but i dont see my self making dubstep or robostep/drumstep in 20yrs from now.this is just fun times.in the perfect time.i plan on becoming a sick producer. this is just that step towards were im trying to go.
my music will change as the time changes.depends on whos paying attention .right now its the dubstep crowd so that were im at for now..a year from now.the beats will be hotter then now.

Robo Jo-Jo: how did you find out about these sub genres of dubstep music and are you one of the creators of robostep music ?

Dstruct.O

IM not going to lie even though i tryed to reach out to these producer .but ya..datsik and excision started the robotic style. that i know of.
without listening to a datsik track i probly would of jump in the scene later and probly would of been doing something dif then the robotic style..
I didnt create the subgenre.i just promoted it more then anyone.maybe datsik or excision did.im not sure.

Robo Jo-Jo: What Medium Do You Prefer Vinyl / MP3 And Why

Dstruct.O

Cant stand the sound of vinyl.the pop and cracks im an audio freak..sound has to be digital and clean
.lol i prefere mp3 or wav.Not saying i wouldnt print to vinyl.just not my perfered taste of sound.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is it that you love About dubstep and drumstep and all the sub genres of dubstep music?

Dstruct.O

Not sure ,i just no i really love it and it kinda was easy to make .so i jumped on board .in the beginning i couldnt stand it untill i heard the robotic style. then now its all i listen to.and drumstep i heard a heist track and it did it for me.lol

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies?

Dstruct.O

1.cheech and chonge up in smoke.
2.The meanGuns
3.Sincity
4.Transformers
5.pulpfiction

Robo Jo-Jo: Any New Releases That The Listeners Should Look Out For and when to expect some new productions and hows your album coming along. ?
Dstruct.O

Yup,working on a 7 to 9 track disk now.which sould be out in the coming month or 2 .

Robo Jo-Jo: How is your record label Subbbace Records doing and how do you run that label of yours and with all your other projects are you going to be releasing any EPs/productions with your other projects and if you could choose to pick someone from any band/studio/musician to tour with who would it be and to make an album with them ?

Dstruct.O

Well my subbbace is just me..lol ran by me, only artists are me..hahahah but theres going to be a vex 5tracks disc released the same time as the dstruct.o disc.
and i havnt thought that far ahead yet with the touring and signing other peeps or collabing .just working on my self right now untill i got funds to do more.

Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers?

Dstruct.O

You Can Do it...its not hard lol.just takes time and alote of fucking money out of your pockets.

Robo Jo-Jo: Shout outs?

Dstruct.O

To everyone making sick beats

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favorite production that you have produced or producing. ?

Dstruct.O

I hate all my own music.i cant even stand to play a song.but thats probly cause ived heard it so many dam times hahaha.

Robo Jo-Jo: How is the scene in your city?

Dstruct.O

WHACK .but starting to pick up. but still whack and controlled by few.we got alot of non supporters..lmao

Robo Jo-Jo: How do you get your ideas from whats the sickest idea you have done and any new ideas for your newest productions you will be working on and if you had a choice to travel around the world and do a show where would that be?

Dstruct.O

U.K. my music seems to sell more there so i guess most of my fan base is there.
my sickest stuff is what im working on now . :)
Robo Jo-Jo: What was the crazyest moment you had on stage and what was the biggest show you ever played and what do you usually like to drop in your sets ?
the craziest moment is when i didnt know how to work the mixer i was using.had to guess it the whole way through..sorry i hate mixers with tomany buttons .what happend to just the eqs 2vol levels and a slider now everything has a million dam buttons.lol ive played many shows not sure if you can call them huge. but they were big and crowded .but nothing stadium size.but still working at that..lmao

Robo Jo-Jo: Whats your favorite genre of music and do you do any other things with music ?

Dstruct.O

My fav genre is all.i dont have a fav.except i cant stand country .but i did use to like a garth brooks song..lmfao.but ya if i would pick one it would be dark drum&bass.its so sick.

Thank You very much Dstruct.O for taking the time to do this and very great interview cheers! Cant wait for your album and your other stuff big ups!.

Robo Jo-Jo Exclusive Interview - Wonkap Interview

Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Wonkap is! Where do you come from and how old are you and when did you start producing Dubstep / Drumstep / Spacestep music?

Wonkap:

I'm from Belgium, right now at the age of 18. And I've been producing dubstep for around 10 months.

Robo Jo-Jo: How old were you when you became influenced by the music you enjoy and where did you get the name Wonkap from?

Wonkap:

Around 2 years ago I started listening to dubstep. I went to a rave with funtcase, borgore, flux pavilion,... playing and then i felt in love with the genre!
The name Wonkap is just a randomly name. I smashed the keyboard till there was a name on the screen i liked... then there was Wonkap.

Robo Jo-Jo: What are the main influences to your genre of choice and what do you see in the music of what you like and what is your main thing you look out for in a track that someone or you have produced?

Wonkap:

I'm really influenced by dark, futuristic & crushing basslines (rottun recordings style of bass).
I always look to create a dark, hyped up track that makes people dance themself in space!

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you produce your music in the recording studio how longs does it take you to finish your productions what do you like to have in hand what do you see inside the production your working on and how do you think its going to turn out ?

Wonkap:

I like to drink a good ice-tea when i'm producing. And it takes about a week / 2 weeks for a track to finish (if there's enaugh inspiration) otherwise it might take longer.
Somtimes I do finish tunes in 2 days tho.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your studio set up what Software / Hardware do you use and which piece of Technology is your favourite in your studio?

Wonkap:

Right now I'm using just some standard speakers, a sennheiser headphone & fruity loops 10.

Robo Jo-Jo: If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why and what
producer/artist/musician would you want to meet and who is your fav producer of all time?

Wonkap:

I'd love to once have a collab with liquid stranger, ajapai, calvertron,....
Right now I'm really into Calvertron tho, I love his style!

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favourite thing to eat and drink?

Wonkap:

French fries with a good coke!!

Robo Jo-Jo: How did you find out about These really cool genres of dubstep and how did you become to create it and make it so powerful where do you think it will go in 2 years or now how is it going to revolutionize in the future of dubstep music and to the world.

Wonkap:

I don't know how i discovered those other kind of styles. probably by listening to a lot of different artists, who all got a unique style of producing.
I think it'll evoluate a lot, right now there is also some kind of 100bpm dubstep going on, lots of new stuff in the future, i'm sure!

Robo Jo-Jo: What Medium Do You Prefer Vinyl / MP3 And Why

Wonkap:

Right now mp3, i never used vinyl.

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you think about all this new dubstep thats coming out of what it can bring to the scene of dubstep and how does it become what it is and how did you start to make it?

Wonkap:

I think there are lots of cool and big releases going on, also with worse releases ofcourse. For me it started just for fun, and slowly getting more serious and serious.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is it that you love About dubstep and drumstep and all the sub genres of dubstep music?

Wonkap:

Just the bass and the tempo, i love the vibe!

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies?

Wonkap:

Oh that's a difficult one... To be honest I don't really watch too much movies.
I do like Tenacious D - The Pick of Destiny! and the harald and kumar movies!
Also I really enjoy watching South Park.

Robo Jo-Jo: Any New Releases That The Listeners Should Look Out For and when to expect some new productions. ?

Wonkap:

Got a new EP in the make, so definitely watch out for that! forthcoming early next year.
And a lot of collabs / remixes that will be out too, soon!

Robo Jo-Jo: What was the first Record Label that signed you and any big labels that are going to be having any of yur EPs/productions out and if you could choose to pick someone from any band/studio/musician to tour with who would it be and to make an album with them ?

Wonkap:

The first label I signed to was 'Collie Connect Records' with my fireman tune.
If there's someone I'd like to tour with, then it'll be probably ajapai or calvertron :P!

Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers?
Wonkap:

If you're a producer or dj, just keep on making tunes, never stop & don't give up!

Robo Jo-Jo: Shout outs?

Wonkap:

Would love to shout out to: Nerva, Maksim, Cyberoptics, Chrispy, Torrid, d-jahsta, direct feed, fresh foolish, davr, teknian & all the other ones i forgot to mention!

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favorite production that you have produced or producing. ?

Wonkap:

Right now it's probably Wonkap ft. Maksim - Chaingun.
I love maksim's voice in it!

Robo Jo-Jo: How is the scene in your city?

Wonkap:

There are barely dubstep raves here :P so it's shitty haha.
But in Belgium dubstep is really amazing tho!

Robo Jo-Jo: How do you get your ideas from whats the sickest idea you have done and any new ideas for your newest productions you will be working on and if you had a choice to travel around the world and do a show where would that be?

Wonkap:

Most if the time they're suddenly in my head, and sometimes I just randomly start producing without even having a melody in mind.

Robo Jo-Jo: In Begium how is the scene down there and is it going to keep growing and who is goingto be the next producer that everyone should look out for and what was the crazyest moment you had on stage ?

Wonkap:

The scene in Belgium is pretty big to be honest.
We've got a few sick producers/dj's in this little country, the raves are most of the time massive & the crowd is just awesome.
And there are always crazy moments, everytime you play a gig. People going crazy on your set is just wicked.

Thanks so much Wonkap for doing the interview and being so super sick massive big ups.

Robo Jo-Jo Exclusive Interview - Mechsteppa Interview

Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Mechsteppa/Its Neuroscience is! Where do you come from and how old are you and when did you start producing Dubstep / Robostep/ Orchestra/ Hardstep music?

Mechsteppa:

I'm currently in Orlando, Florida actually. Turned 20 two months ago! Well, I got serious with production about three years ago to be honest. It's been a journey since then. ;)

Robo Jo-Jo: How old were you when you became influenced by the music you enjoy and where did you get the name Mechsteppa/Its Neuroscience from?

Mechsteppa:

I was probably 18, from what I can remember when I first heard Dubstep. I was actually on the http://dubstep.fm/ irc when somebody recommended me to use the name "mechsteppa", as it related to the sound of my music. As for "It's Neuroscience" - well... I'm currently working on my masters of Cognitive Neuroscience, so, I guess that much is self explanatory. heh

Robo Jo-Jo: What are the main influences to your genre of choice and what do you see in the music of what you like and what is your main thing you look out for in a track that someone or you have produced?

Mechsteppa:

My influences stem from multiple people. Anybody I've heard that influenced me either emotionally, or made my head go "wow, thats fucking new". So specifically, Army of The Pharaohs, Excision, Datsik, and The Widdler(bigup Yani).

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you produce your music in the recording studio how longs does it take you to finish your productions what do you like to have in hand what do you see inside the production your working on?

Mechsteppa:

As far as the length of time it takes me to complete a track - that varies. Sometimes I spend an entire day fucking around and trying to make a new synth or sound that nobody has ever heard before. If I can't manage that, I just dont make music. However, on average, I can complete a track in anywhere from 48-72 hours of work.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your studio set up what Software / Hardware do you use and which piece of Technology is your favourite in your studio?

Mechsteppa:

Currently im a bedroom/basement producer. I use FL Studio, Massive VST of course, but honestly I can't really give out my secrets to sound design...sorry on that one.

Robo Jo-Jo Its all good Mechsteppa as they say never give out your secret ingredients haha sounds sick your studio.

Robo Jo-Jo: If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why and what producer/artist/musician would you want to meet and who is your fav producer of all time?

Mechsteppa:

LebelgeElectrod. No words to describe the artistic capability of this guy...I would collab with him any day of the week. Just listen to his track "We Have the Time"...I think its on his soundcloud.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favourite thing to eat and drink?

Mechsteppa:

Amp Energy Drinks.

Robo Jo-Jo: How did you find out about Robostep and how did you become to create it and make it so original where do you think it will go in 2 years or now how is it going to revolutionize in the future of dubstep and to the world.

Mechsteppa:

Well to be honest, there's a lot of argument out there about who first founded "Robostep". But, I can tell you from honest truth that the actual term "robostep" was deemed by myself and a guy named "Wubber Stomper" from the http://dubstep.fm/ IRC chat. He was the first to make a channel on Souncloud for it...etc. I made a tune a few years back called "The Organ of Corti" which had heavy Mech or big "robotic" aspects. It got lots of attention to my surprise...kinda just been trying to improve on it since then.

Robo Jo-Jo:  What is hardstep how did you create it where did it come from are you going to keep making hardstep will it ever be something new that other producers will create and it will become something more.

Mechsteppa:

Hardstep = Hard kicks in place of punchy drums, hard snares, hard distorted saw melodies, and epic loud and WIDE leads over big heart-dropping bass. I actually got the idea to see what I could come up with if I ressurected an old genre called "Hard Trance" with modern nasty Dubstep....and Hardstep was the result. ;)

Robo Jo-Jo: What Medium Do You Prefer Vinyl / MP3 And Why. ?

Mechsteppa:

Honestly I've never even been signed, kind of just sell my few tracks that I think are "worthy" through iTunes. I would say 95% of all my tunes are free and for the public. I guess you could call me a dirty 'communist', heh...

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you think about all this new dubstep thats coming out of what it can bring to the scene of dubstep and how does it become what it is and how did you start to make it?

Mechsteppa:

Honestly, at this point I just listen to the big mixes from Mustache Mixtape or Shambhala. Occasionaly your mixes along with some other good Dubstep DJs. I like to see what makes the top...where it's all going. You know? As somebody who believes strongly in Darwinian Evolution, I want Dubstep to grow into as many things as the human mind can conjure up.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is it that you love About dubstep and drumstep and robostep and hardstep music. ?

Mechsteppa:

Everything. To be honest I'm not the kind of girl that's happy with the way the world is going, and the sub-genres of Dubstep allow me to express how I feel through music.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies?

Mechsteppa:

Oh god, I don't think i can answer this one. Blade Runner and Gattaca fill my top spots, along with Gladiator, Lord of The Rings, and Terminator of course!

Robo Jo-Jo: Any New Releases That The Listeners Should Look Out For and when to expect some new productions. ?

Mechsteppa:

As of now I'm on a two-week break until my classes start back up again, so we'll see. I'll pump some coffee into me and see if anything interesting comes into my head. haha

Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers?

Mechsteppa:

Don't make music and expect it to be the best or anywhere close while starting out. Read. Listen to professional sound designers and producer. Study mastering. Make bits and pieces just to see how far you can take the quality of your music, and don't ever hesitate to ask questions!

Robo Jo-Jo: Shout outs?

Mechsteppa:

All my followers who have given me so much encouragement over the years...cheesy I know...but really you guys have no idea how good it feels to read some of your comments. Thank you all.

Robo Jo-Jo: Your favorite Orchestra artist and band?

Mechsteppa:

Any and all classical music!

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favorite production that you have produced or producing. ?

Mechsteppa:

To this date, probably Evolving Faster. I don't really have a favorite though...each one took a look of effort to come up with something unique, be it that the public liked it or not....different is just what I try and do in each and all of my tracks. Massive style!

Mechsteppa:

Robo Jo-Jo: Where do you think dubstep/electronica music is going to go and how is the scene in your city. ?

Mechsteppa:

It's growing fast. I don't think the mainstream 'sheeple' are ready for what dubstep is currently saying about the world, so it might be a good while before we hear some dirty-nasty drops on the radio unfortunately.

Robo Jo-Jo:  How do you get your ideas from whats the sickest idea you have done and any new ideas for your newest productions you will be working on and if you had a choice to travel around the world and do a show where would that be?

Mechsteppa:

The sickest idea I ever got was from my Hardstep honestly...I went all out with sound design...taking influence from movies like Transformers and War of The Worlds. Lots of effort went into those tunes!

Thanks Mechsteppa for doing the interview and for being so wicked sick at what you do big ups for this cant wait to hear all your new tracks and ideas of from your music respect.

Check out Mechsteppa sounds!!!

Robo Jo-Jo Exclusive - Torus Interview

Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Torus is and where you come from and how old are you and when did you start producing dubstep. ?

Torus:

My name is Zach Kremer, I'm originally from Hudson, WI. I actually only started producing Dubstep about 6 months ago or so, but I've been making electronic music in general for like 5 years

Robo Jo-Jo: How old where you when you got influenced by the music you enjoy and where did you get the name Torus from . ?

Torus:

I can't really say that dubstep was the original genre that made me want to produce it. I think it first started when I was like 16 with Drum and Bass music. I used to always listen to Spor / Noisia / Black Sun Empire, and I loved the gritty dark feel of the tracks. A friend later showed me a couple of Dubstep songs when I was 18 or so by Cookie Monsta and Tek-One; that was the first dubstep I really ever liked.

Robo Jo-Jo: What are the main influences to your genre of choice and what do you see in the music of what you like. ?

Torus:

It's really hard to name a couple of artists and say they're my main influences. I listen to a lot of music and a lot of genres, I think that listening to a variety of music will give you the best edge especially in today's world. Too many artists sound the same and I think if you don't take influences from multiple genre's, you'll just end up sounding like a bad version of your favorite artist.

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you produce your music in the recording studio how longs does it take you to finish your productions what do you like to have in hand. ?

Torus:

Well I don't really have a studio, I've got a nice laptop, and a bunch of VST's, that's about it. But I normally start out with some aspect of a song that I really want to build around, whether that be some geeky trance melody I wrote up, or some crazy synth patch I made in Massive. Once I have the motivation, I'll start building the track. It doesn't work about 75% of the time, but when it does it flows real well. I'd say a track takes me anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on how many musical 'road-blocks' I hit along the way.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your studio set up what Software / Hardware do you use and which piece of Technology is your favourite in your studio?

Torus:

I have a nice pair of studio headphones (I don't feel like giving any brand name shout-outs for the headphones). A pretty powerful laptop, and I used to have a 49 key midi keyboard (I hardly used it and ended up selling it). As for software, I mainly run Massive, Predator, Sylenth1, and sometimes Nexus. My favorite piece of software has got to be Massive, I'm sure most dubstep producers would say the same.

Robo Jo-Jo: f you could collab with anyone who would it be and why and what producer/artist/musician would you want to meet?

Torus:

I'd love to collab with any big name artist, I love seeing how other people do things and picking up tips / tricks on production / synthesizing techniques. If I had to choose though, I think i'd say Shekel, Getter, Skrillex, or Diesel. I'd love to meet Skrillex in person, he seems like a real chill guy and not too full of himself.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favourite thing to eat and drink. ?

Torus:

Rofl.. I do love my pizza, ramen noodles, pizza rolls... pretty much any junk-food. I mainly drink water, but every now and then I'll grab a couple energy drinks and work on music or play video games all night

Robo Jo-Jo: What Medium Do You Prefer Vinyl / MP3 And Why. ?

Torus:

Mp3, never had the money to afford actually buying vinyls of anything.

Robo Jo-Jo: What to you think about all this new dubstep thats coming out of what it can bring to the scene of dubstep and how does it become what it is and how did you start to make it. ?

Torus:

I think all the new dubstep flooding the scene is just making the scene more cut-throat. Everyone's learning how to make "sick" noises with Massive and half the artists just throw a bunch of them in a song and call it good. Now it's going back to production quality / music theory / rythym, the way it should have always been.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is it that you love About dubstep and drumstep music. ?

Torus:

I really love the outlandish noises mixed with the slower beat. It's almost like a bunch of futuristic gang anthems imo.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies?

Torus:

I really like Requiem for a Dream, American Beauty, Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River, and A Scanner Darkly.

Robo Jo-Jo: Any New Releases That The Listeners Should Look Out For?

Torus:

Anything by Chronos, those guys know what's up.

Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers?

Torus:

Don't release anything until you're 100% satisfied with it. My best advice is once you think you're done with a track, give it like a day or two and have another listen, most likely you will change something for the better.

Robo Jo-Jo: Shout outs?

Torus:

Meh

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your favorite production that you have produced or producing. ?

Torus:

I really love Wraith and Beautiful Death

Robo Jo-Jo: Where do you think dubstep/electronica music is going to go and how is the scene in your city.
Torus:

I feel like it's eventually going to get more vocal, I love any dubstep track that an Emcee can kill it on / any girl with a great voice singing before the drop.

Thanks Torus for taking the time to do the interview and being so good of a producer and creating such epic dubstep.

Robo Jo-Jo Exclusive - Koele Koen Interview

Robo Jo-Jo: So tell us who Koele Koen is, where do you come from, how old are you and when did you start designing art ?

Koele Koen:

I'm a 21 year old simple guy from Belgium, Antwerp. I started drawing when I was 3 but the real designing for clients started 3 years ago and I'm stepping up my game ever since.

Robo Jo-Jo: How old were you when you got influenced by the art you enjoy now ?

Koele Koen:

I had many influences along the years, but I can say my biggest influence was when I was about 17.

Robo Jo-Jo: What are your main influences of artist that you like and what do you see in the art you like ?

Koele Koen:

My biggest influence was without a doubt Derek Deal, I randomly found an artwork of this guy on the internet, it was a T-shirt design for Emmure
and right there and then I knew I wanted to do the kind of stuff he was into, along the way I found many inspiring and helpful people like Felix Laflamme,Stephen Bunnell,Dan Mumford, Mutationsartwork,
Matthew Skiff, Godmachine,...
I Really like the way those artists can create a new reality that is unreal, their comic style combined with gore elements is something I've always admired. It makes something nasty acceptable.

Robo Jo-Jo: What do you do when you design your art in your working station, how long does it take you to finish a design you made and what do you like to have in hand. ?

Koele Koen:

I mainly drink a lot of coffee when I'm designing haha. Making a whole new artwork from scratch does take a day or 2 but since I'm not a fulltime designer (yet?) I have to schedule my amount of time I can spend in my working station.
I don't really have the need to have "things in hand" but I will make a remark if I do not agree or have a suggestion for my client.

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your art set up what software do you use and what's in your working station
Koele Koen:

I'm using a basic Wacom drawing board: Intuos 4M as hardware (combined with my laptop) The software I use is mainly Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop for mock ups of shirts. I also like to have lots of plants around me for some reason.

Robo Jo-Jo: If you could do an art design with anyone who would it be and why? And if you could meet anyone that is an artist or a talented person who would it be ?

Koele Koen:

I would like to work with Derek Deal, his style is simple but effective, I really love his work and helping him would be a major honor. If I could meet anyone in real life it would be Mutations Artwork (fernandes Jeferson) He's a talented guy but also
an amazing friend, he helped me hundreds of times and even designed my tattoo.

Robo Jo-Jo: what is your favourite thing to eat or drink ?

Koele Koen:

drink: coffee and monster energy, that’s my basic survival kit hah

Robo Jo-Jo: who is you favourite producer/dj in Belgium and how is the music scene in
where you're from ?

Koele Koen:

That would be Sound Of Stereo, these guys got me dancing several times at major festivals/parties. Music scene in Belgium is really vivid, the main cities really support the underground music
and there is always a party, event or concert you can go to.

Robo Jo-Jo: what is it that you love about art and designing and what is your favourite genre of music ?

Koele Koen:

The way I can express myself is amazing also the freedom of creating new things and show others what's in my head is an experience I love. I love many sorts of music.
Depends on my mood mainly, could be DnB, Metalcore, Blues, Indie, old school rock,....

Robo Jo-Jo: What is your top 5 Favorite Movies and what is your top artist/tracks of 2010 and so far in 2011 and who do you think is going to kill it this year. ?

Koele Koen:

Top 5 movies, to be honest I always forget the movies I watch and 2010 wasn't really a movie year for me. Artists/tracks. Tough one, 2010 was really a blasting year but the album that stuck with me the most was without a doubt  “Bring Me The Horizon - There is a hell  believe me I’ve  seen it, there is a heaven let’s keep it a secret” the others would be heaven shall burn, Borgore, Her Bright Skies and The Wombats. 2011: has been a killer already thanks to Architects, Foo Fighters and White Lies.

Robo Jo-Jo: any new art designs that the world should know about in they future ?

Koele Koen:

Yeah I'll be getting more heavy and more into the death/metalcore although keep your eyes peeled cause I'm working for some big Belgium trash electro producers as well!

Robo Jo-Jo: How many designs do you do usually at once and what was your favorite design so far ?  What is your favorite one your doing and any special designs to look out for

Koele Koen:

I combine 2 or 3 designs mostly, so I can keep everyone up to date and catch up with everything. My fav one I've done is Define These Words, it was simple but I really loved working for them. The one that's my fav now must be
the one for Robo Jo-Jo+ a  Belgium trash producer whose name I can't tell yet, make sure to check those out when done!

Robo Jo-Jo: Any Advice for Upcoming Artists / DJs / producers / Bands / designers ?

Koele Koen:

Just keep pushing and trying and give everything you have, you will have ups but also downs, just make sure the downs don't hold you back, don’t be shy and ask help and opinions of other artists!
Also important, focus on the people who want to HELP and SUPPORT you, instead of the critics that try to break you down.

Robo Jo-Jo: shout outs ?

Koele Koen:

(twitter) Special shout outs to Mutations Artwork (@mutationsartwrk), Vieze Vincent (@viezevincent) Stephen Bunnell (@cryface) Felix Laflamme (@felixlaflamme) and all my friends, family and clients who supported me and got me where I'm standing today.

Robo Jo-Jo: How did you get into art and designing pictures for all these artist DJ’s and

Koele Koen:

producers and who would you want to do an design for.
I got to work for all these producers because of the support and publicity everyone gave me, they put my work out there and made sure it got noticed.
My ultimate dream is to create something for the Foo Fighters since they are my nr 1 inspiration. But their style is different than my artwork so the chance for that is rather small.

Favorite track:
In Fear And Faith-Your World On Fire

Special thanks to Koele Koen for the interview and taking the time to be part of it. Big ups for making such amazing designs and enjoying the music that is out there today check out his fan page and get all they up dates and everything else from Koele Koen become a fan.
